New Orleans

This is a tribute to a city
that created its own mythology out of whole cloth,
the earth, the water, and dreams made of music, art, artifice,
happiness and tragedy beyond imagining.

Out of the river
it came

It flourished

was destroyed,

and is now
being reborn.

It is a place of
exuberant
art

and music

in streets of
the very living,
very dead, and
every condition
in between

Statues eroded to
such serentiy that
only their souls
are left.

while others
are still young

There are dolls
more believable
than the people
watching them

and there are
fortunes of
every sort to be
found

It is a city that dances in times of sadness
and sings the blues for sheer joy.
