Indonesia: Bali

Far from the tsunami, Bali sparkles.

Women fish in the shallows

and fleets of outriggers sail out

and come back full each day

Nature blessed this island

and the Balinese make the most of it.

Colors and shapes

reflect

and compliment each other

Welcoming

all who enter here.

Statues stand guard

some ferocious,       some whimsical

some figures are pensive

some     sinuous and   seductive

some magnificent

Some     admire         the           flowers

others     ignore   them

Every home and business has a temple

and every hill.

Go, under the branches,

and through   the     magic       doors

through the gates

past the guard

into the inner sanctum

where the offerings are gratefully received

by those who wait

and as the shadows lengthen, and the evening comes, there is peace
