Chile

The coastline of Chile stretches for more than 2600 miles.
Most creatures
live in, or off,

or next to
the sea.

They fish or harvest clams
    or other shellfish
        everywhere.
As if to
      light
the dark sea
      and dark land,
People fill
    their lives
        with color,
their boats,

their clothing,
their gates and
    homes.
They are artists
    in wood,
carving shingles
and boats and carts
They live
  on streets built
    out of time and
      light
and some
  out of tile
    and wire
      and glass

people die
and their boats
      die

but there is still beauty and dignity
